Some Courthouse Public Benches Get a Facelift
State penitentiary inmates will do the repair and re-finishing work

Inmates of the Blair County Prison will be repairing and refinishing courtroom benches. They are shown here loading the benches into a Big House van. The funds for the refinishing work will come from fees paid by offenders to the county, not tax revenue.
At the Aug. 20 Blair County Commissioners meeting, the county commissioners approved a $23,400 proposal from Pennsylvania Correctional Industries (also known as "The Big House") to repair and re-finish the 1906 courtroom public seating benches. State penitentiary inmates will do the repair and re-finishing work as part of the state correctional system's effort to teach inmates how to work and learn a trade.
