The Herald is introducing a new community calendar that is free to use.
The Herald's Community Calendar has been completely revamped and is now easier to use. The entire Hollidaysburg and Duncansville community is invited to make the calendar a central place to find out what's going on in the community. There are no fees and no charge and the calendar is easy to use.
"Our plan is to have one central calendar for the community," said Herald Publisher Allan J. Bassler. "We set up this new calendar to give the community one place to go for all the events happening in the area."
While acknowledging that many events have been canceled due to coronavirus-related restrictions, Bassler said that the Herald is looking forward to the time when the community can get back to normal and the area is busy with activities.
To use the new calendar, go to the Hollidaysburg Herald's website at http://www.hollidaysburgherald.com and click on "Calendar" in the tab bar underneath the Hollidaysburg Herald nameplate. It is over to the right. In the drop-down box, click on "Community Events Calendar." Then find the blue link for Community Events Calendar" and click it. Events are displayed. To submit an event, use the green "Submit Event" button.
The new Community Calendar is an interactive online calendar that the Herald has added to its website.
The new Community Calendar allows users to view community events and information about those events.
Users also have the ability to submit their own events. Users can subscribe to the calendar, which will link the Herald calendar events to their own calendar software or calendar website.
"An interactive calendar like this one allows people in the community to share their events, anniversaries and celebrations publicly," Bassler said. "It brings a sense of community to the area and keeps the information all in one place. Think of it like a public bulletin board that people thumbtack ads and information to, but it's online and all about local events that you're invited to."
The Community Calendar allows users to view the calendar in three different ways: pinboard, agenda or monthly. The calendar is easy to use and is easy to understand.
Also, the new Community Calendar will fit the screen of whatever device it is view ed on, whether it is a desktop computer, a laptop, a phone or tablet. In short, it's mobile-phone friendly.
For reasons of space, submissions to the community calendar will limit the amount of information provided.
To place a paid ad on the Hollidaysburg Herald website for a community event, please call the Herald office at 793-2144. Buying ads for community events helps both the organization and the Herald, Bassler said.
Questions about the calendar should be directed to [email protected] or call 793-2144.
