Allegheny Township Police Involved in Low-Speed Chase Oct. 8

Woman's injury not related to police pursuit

On Oct. 8, 2020, at approximately 1:42 p.m., officers of the Allegheny Township Police Department were requested to check on suspicious activity in the Maple Hollow - Hummingbird Lane area. A female later Identified as Ashley Beard was reportedly operating a black Oldsmobile, drlvlng up and down the lane repeatedly and getting into her neighbors' mailboxes.

Upon officers arriving in the area, Beard was observed operating the described vehicle which was not displaying a registration plate. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle to make contact with the operator. The operator fled from officers, leading officers on a low-speed pursuit on Maple Hollow Road, Mill Road, Theater Drive, State Route 764 and onto Interstate 99.

Beard was eventually apprehended after spike strips and legal Intervention were used by police. Officers was then discovered that Beard was suffering from severe, life-threating neck injury, unrelated to the police pursuit. Beard was transported to UPMC Altoona for treatment and was later life-flighted to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for further treatment.

The Allegheny Township Pollce Department continues to investigate this incident.

The Alleghenv Township Police were assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police, Freedom Township Police, Hollidaysburg Borough Police, Logan Township Pollce, Blair County Sheriff's Department, Pa. Game Commission officers, and City of Altoona police. AMED provided medical treatment and transportation of the victim.

The Allegheny Twp Police Department issued thanks to the other agencies assisting in the incident.
